European Union and the United States adopt new sanctions against Iran

European Union and United States adopted a new round of sanctions against Iran for violating human rights, in response to the Iranian regime’s widespread and disproportionate use of force against non-violent protesters following the death of Mahsa Amini last September.

The European Council decided to add 18 individuals and 19 entities to the list of those subject to restrictive measures. These listings follow the Council’s decisions of 17 October, 14 November, and 12 December. Restrictive measures now apply to a total of 164 individuals and 31 entities.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Cooperative Foundation and five of its board members, the Deputy Minister of Intelligence and Security, and four senior IRGC commanders.
