\"\"The Council of the European Union<\/strong> has adopted a new sanctions framework<\/strong> in relation to the current situation in Niger<\/strong>, and extended the restrictive measures against Burundi<\/strong>, ISIL\/Da’esh<\/strong> and Al-Qaeda<\/strong> for a further year.<\/p>\n

Niger<\/b><\/h3>\n

Following Council Decision (CFSP) 2023\/2287<\/b><\/a> and Regulation (EU) 2023\/2406<\/b><\/a>, the EU<\/b> adopted a framework for restrictive measures <\/b>in view of the situation in Niger. <\/b>On July 2023, a coup d’\u00e9tat<\/b> took place, leading to the removal of President Mohamed Bazoum and the establishment of a military-led junta.<\/p>\n

All funds<\/b> and economic resources <\/b>belonging to, owned, held or controlled by any natural or legal person, entity or body as listed in Annex I <\/b>to Regulation (EU) No 2023\/2406 shall be frozen<\/b>. No funds<\/b> or economic resources shall be made available<\/b>, directly or indirectly, to or for the benefit of natural or legal persons, entities or bodies listed in Annex I.<\/p>\n

This Annex<\/b> shall include<\/b> individuals and entities responsible for actions that threaten the peace, stability and security of Niger, undermine the constitutional order, democracy<\/b>, the rule of law, or constitute serious human rights violations <\/b>or abuses, or violations of applicable international humanitarian law in Niger.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that Annex I is not currently populated<\/b>, but it is reasonable to assume that it will be populated in the near future.<\/p>\n

Burundi<\/b><\/h3>\n

In view of the situation in Burundi, on 23 October 2023 the Council renewed <\/b>the restrictive measures<\/b> provided for in Council Regulation (EU) 2015\/1755<\/b><\/a> for a further year, until 31 October 2024.<\/b><\/p>\n
